Leading Intercessions

Intercessions??? Another 'church' word! Intercessions are simply the prayers offered to God on behalf of others and ourselves. The Interceder who leads these prayers is, (at St Martin's on a Sunday morning), usually a member of the congregation on a rota basis.
A fair amount of preparation is required, but a set of Guidelines is provided, and help is always available from Fr John or another of the team members.
It is best to start thinking about the Sunday Prayers about Wednesday or Thursday, checking out any special festival themes, the readings for the day and the Prayer diary provided by the Diocese.
Broadly the prayers follow a set format: the Church, the World, local issues, the Sick, the Departed. But within this framework the choice is yours. Each interceder has special interests - a charity, an overseas interest, a particular local project, and this adds to the rich variety prayers.
If you would like to know a little more about becoming an Interceder, please have a word with Fr John or Geraldine.
